Bruce Timm may not have achieved Jack Kirby's stature (see The Jack Kirby Collector, v.4, reviewed below), but he may be better known by today's comics fans, for he produced and designed the popular animated TV show Batman Adventures, which many consider the most successful filming of the Caped Crusader. Though he has since produced shows featuring Superman and the Justice League, he intermittently returns to comic books with an expressively simple, distinctively cartoony style that recaptures the fun of superheroes before they acquired their current veneer of relative sophistication. In this book-length interview, Timm discusses his background and influences (foremost among them Kirby) and tells what it's like to toil in TV animation. Despite his success, he comes across as affable and enthusiastic--qualities evident in his work on screen and page. The volume is amply decked out with character designs, comics pages, storyboards, and other illustrations, notably including a galley of pin-ups of Wonder Woman, Catwoman, and other costumed adventuresses that show off Timm's skill with (PG-rated) feminine pulchritude. Great read, but don't expect an "Art of Bruce Timm" book.

I've been a fan of Bruce Timm's work since I first watched Batman the Animated series in the early 90s. This book is more of a biography than anything else, for it's content it's definitely an excellent read if you want to hear Bruce's story of how he broke into the animation business coming from his self-taught background to how be became the biggest name in the industry. For somebody who loves that sort of stuff, this is definitely worth it but it won't be anything you probably haven't already heard from commentary or a bonus feature interview on any Bruce Timm DVD.

I rated this book 3 stars because all in all, it was ok and worth the price. It does have a nice range of illustrations from stuff Bruce did back in the day all the way up to some of his professional work. Sadly though the illustrated content is rather sparse and 90% of all the illustrations are in black and white (this is a shame because Bruce is the master of marker/ink/paint color work).

GET THIS BOOK IF: You're a fan of Bruce Timm and would like to read about Bruce's journey of being a complete nobody to becoming the guy who brought us one of the most amazing American Cartoon television series ever made and you'll be content with a few small (mostly B&W) drawings with a couple of older color Bruce Timm drawings you've seen online before passing as a lackluster "gallery" towards the back.

DON'T GET THIS BOOK IF: You're not that interested in lots of back story, text, and only a few smaples of artwork. If you're looking for a comprehensive art book, with color illustrations, conceptual sketches, etc this is not for you.

Bruce Timm is the Master! This graphic book proves it, 128 pages of goodness! For almost three decades, hes been doing it and doing it well. As an avid fan of his work, I grew up with his TV shows, comic books, his art style is so unique, he blend it with so many, that it's his own now. His women are so exquisite, that it comes out of the page and hit you right in the gut! as well as everything else in his storytelling. Art lovers, don't hesitate to grab this masterpiece. Highest possible recommendation... Cheers!

This book covers the career of Bruce Timm, the man responsible for the Batman animated series. It is very interesting to see how his career developed from wannabe comic book artist to animation director. It was interesting to see how the world of TV animation works. It's quite different from the world of film animation. Of course the volume is filled with the artwork of Bruce Timm, which is done in a very retro-cool style that is reminiscent of the cartoons of the 50's and 60's. One nice surprise is that there is even a section of color artwork.

The reason that I rated this 4 stars instead of 5 is that the quality of the book isn't very good. It feels much more like a magazine than a book. When I first picked it up, I was afraid that it would fall apart in my hands. Just be aware that it's a bit more fragile than the average paperback. Other than that it's a great read with lots of great artwork. I recommend it for anyone who is interested in retro-style cartooning, animation, or the Batman animated series. You won't be disappointed.

Inland Navigation: Channel Training Works presents design guidance on structures that reshape a river channel to create reliable depths and widths for safe and dependable vessel transit. This Manual of Practice focuses on training structures used in open-river channels with flow in one direction (non-tidal), and many of the structures are also appropriate for use on low-head (no reservoir storage capacity) lock-and-dam river systems. It describes in detail the proper use of dikes and revetments and explains how to design channel dimensions and alignment so that little or no maintenance dredging is required.

Topics include: sediment management in river channels, evolution of training works in the United States, training structure types and layout, dikes, revetments, other types of training works, case studies, costs, environmental design, model studies, performance evaluation and inspection, and repair techniques.

Includes a glossary and a reprint of a 1991 paper on an analytical method to determine dike length.

MOP 124 is a key reference for navigation engineers working on U.S. Army Corps of Engineers projects or in the private sector, as well as state and local government officials charged with managing river systems.

Fun thrills with wild and wealthy characters at the airport

Poor Vivian, an attorney who is hating her job, is stuck at the airport when she learns of a large reward for a stolen item carried by her criminal look alike. She weaves a path through a most incredible cast of debauched billionaires attempting to claim the prize. This is the second thing I have read by Stirling, and like his short story Bobo, Airport novel is excellent. Fun and interesting characters, both in depth and quick "people watching " style sketches, are often hilarious. The writing style and wordplay is masterful. I'm really looking forward to reading more of his work!

About the Author
David M. Allan
David Allan received his medical training at Cambridge University and Guy’s Hospital in
England. He was Chief Resident in Pediatrics at Bellevue Hospital in New York City before
moving to San Diego, California.
Dr. Allan has worked as a family physician in England, a pediatrician in San Diego, and
Associate Dean at the University of California, San Diego School of Medicine. He has designed,
written, and produced more than 100 award-winning multimedia programs with virtual reality
as their conceptual base. Dr. Allan resides happily in San Diego.

Karen D. Lockyer
Karen Lockyer holds a degree in Health Information (RHIT), a national coding certification
(CPC), and a BS from Rutgers University. She is also a credentialed member of AHIMA
(American Health Information Management Association) and AAPC (American Academy of
Professional Coders).
Mrs. Lockyer has worked in medical practice administration and the Health Information
Management fields for many years. She has taught medical terminology for high school,
community college, and workforce development areas at the National Institutes of Health and
the federal government’s Office of Personnel Management. She has also taught coding and
billing for undergraduate and certificate programs at the community college level.

Book is in great shape but I thought since I was ordering a ...

DOESN'T INCULED CONNECT ACCESS CODE!! Book is in great shape but I thought since I was ordering a brand new book the connect access code would be included. It wasn't and it will now cost just as much as the bookstore since I have to purchase the online access.

BEWARE! The online modules do not match the information covered in the text book. Worst Support Ever.

This book is cheat made with very thin pages which tear when turning them. The subject material is grouped by system but information is sometimes vague. If your taking this course with the Connect courseware or online BEWARE! The online modules do not match the information covered in the text book. Halfway through the course my registration magically expired. I emailed customer support and nothing happened but the college informed me McGrawhill was working on it because it effected several classes. After a couple weeks of nothing happening, I called the help desk located in the Philippines. I have nothing against people who speak English as a second language but I didn't buy this product in the Philippines and I don't like supporting slave labor in foreign countries for 120.00 cheaply made book. After an hour on the phone they only thing that was accomplished was re-registering my account with a temporary account not the one on the connect card and they deleted half my completed assignments for the courseware. The issue has still not been resolved and McGrawhill states the didn't know why the issue occurred. Seems if they were half as concern with the viability of the product as they are protecting the registration of their garbage courseware they wouldn't have to contract to 3rd world countries to support it.

Medical language so and so

The book was in excellent condition, but as a "Brand New" book, the access code that usually comes with the "New" books was nowhere to be found. Nowhere does it state it will not be included. My only disappointment.

I can't quit buying these devotionals!

I love this devotional so much, I have purchased a 1/2 dozen more to give to friends and family. I have many devotionals, but this is one of my new favorites. It is small and can fit easily in my purse so it goes with me everywhere. I never mind waiting at the dentist, optometrist, etc as I hve my devotional to read. I plan to buy more to give for birthdays.

My Favorite Devotional

This is my favorite devotional. The fact that it is completely geared to woman really personalizes the messages for me. I ask God to guide me to open to the page that I need for the day and that always works for me. I'm going to order some to have on hand as gifts.

Confused and Mistaken

The main problem with the book is its emphasis on multiculteralism, not to mention that the author simply does not know his stuff. We are told that Galileo ignored friction in order to get "neat results" and somehow caused Western science to only study linear systems. He seems to think that nonlinearity and chaos are the same thing. He tells us that nonlinear problems are not solvable. He actually suggests that we have only recently seen that the three-body problem is chaotic. (Instead Poincare proved the chaotic nature of the problem around 1890.) He seems to think that Asian philosophies actually capture the mathematical substance of chaos theory. I could go on. If you want to study chaos get the volume "Chaos and Fractals: New Frontiers of Science" by Peitgen, Jurgens, and Saupe.

OK, but something missing...

I'm a fan of the Introducing series. I don't want to be too critical of this book, but I was a bit disappointed. I did learn a little more than I knew before I read it, but as many of the reviews say, the organization is a bit "chaotic" to the point where you feel you're never given a true overview of the subject. An introduction to any topic should at least try to leave you with some framework of organization for the topic as a whole.

You can probably learn as much about Chaos theory by reading the Wikipedia article. If I'm going to buy a book, I want something more. Perhaps a deeper exploration into one practical application of Chaos theory that shows it as a real science with a purpose. One is almost left with the impression that Chaos theory is more a post-modern criticism of western science rather than a true alternative explanation of phenomenon.

This is an excellent introduction to Chaos. It is aimed at the general non academic reader who may have heard about this buzzword called "Chaos" and wondered what's it all about. It is not for the academic, informed reader but a quick introduction for the intelligent layman or someone who last formally studied science many years ago. It draws heavily on James Gleick's book "Chaos" which was the first book to popularise the subject. If you are busy and want to know something about chaos to see if you then want to find out more, this book is perfect.
